My hope for you

Poetry speaks to our minds and hearts and is meant to communicate more than the sum of its words. It is an apt expression of our walk with the Lord. I encourage you to forward this link to those you love. I pray this poetry leads you into reflection and prayer but I also want to start a conversation. You, too, have something to share with others-not only in person, but also here. Your experience is yours to give away to build up and learn from others in the Body of Christ. Share the word that you hear, the experiences you have lived. We are all part of the New Evangelization. If you also want to contact me by email, feel free:

The Question

unbelief fosters a
vague uneasiness
lingering beyond logic
sentiments of insecurity
protestations of confidence
attempting to under-gird
life's journey of
imperfect outcomes
whose purposes vary
at odds with competitors
sometimes even companions
falling short of ideals
brewing from long ago
then there's that
never enough
always more than
transitory satisfaction
can endure
when desires beat
limited fulfillment in the
race of life never quite
living up to their billing
as the sine qua non of
happiness despite the
smiling faces of fantasy
because there are always those
terrible tremors of loss that
foster feelings of despair
when answers fail to satisfy
questions about life's trials
whether from circumstances of
pride's inept hoarding of accolades
finances, health, injustice...
too many to count
too few that are
acceptable with any
measure of peace
some of which reside in
emotional attractions
undressed in
physical expressions
passing for love which
lose meaning's battle with self respect
when sacrifice of self requires
more than
now and
mostly then or
when ego sits on the throne of
temporary relationships
even to the extent that
evil's veil of horror
masquerading as good
execute trespasses against
the innocent in the name of
freedom to choose
life for me
death for you
I win you lose
any behavior is justified
as long as I feel
it is right or true
no matter how destructive or
foreign to our nature
lastly there's that "ends" thing
you know
like in
everything ends
as in death
the certitude of finality
to all this
all this and more
leads me to ask
the question
is this all there is?

-Does unbelief foster the stated description? Why/not?
-Do "desires beat limited fulfillment in the race of life"? Why/not?
-What does this tell us?
-Is the description of relationships accurate? Why/not?
-What are some of the "terrible tremors of despair"?
-What does abortion tell us about our culture?
-Why don't we talk about death? Explain.
-How do you talk about eternal truths to someone in today's culture?
-Prepare a 5-10 minute explanation of your relationship with God.
